তুলশীমালা ধান – বাংলাদেশের ঐতিহ্যবাহী আমন জাতের সুগন্ধি ধান

তুলশীমালা ধান (Tulshimala Rice) বাংলাদেশের একটি ঐতিহ্যবাহী ও ফটোসেন্সিটিভ আমন জাতের ধান, যা মূলত ময়মনসিংহ বিভাগের শেরপুর জেলা এবং পদ্মা নদীর দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের ২০টি জেলায় চাষ হয়। এই ধান তার ঘন ধূসর দানার রং, দীর্ঘ শীষ ও সুঘ্রাণের জন্য বিশেষভাবে পরিচিত।

তুলশীমালা ধান জুলাই মাসের শেষ সপ্তাহ থেকে আগস্টের প্রথম সপ্তাহ পর্যন্ত রোপণ করা হয়। ফুল ফোটে অক্টোবরের শেষ থেকে নভেম্বরের মাঝামাঝি পর্যন্ত, এবং ফসল কাটা হয় ডিসেম্বর মাসজুড়ে (অগ্রহায়ণের মাঝামাঝি থেকে পৌষের শুরু)।

এই ধানের গাছের উচ্চতা গড়ে ১১০ থেকে ১৮৫ সেন্টিমিটার পর্যন্ত হয়ে থাকে। একটি গাছে ৮ থেকে ১০টি কুশি দেখা যায়। ধানের শীষের দৈর্ঘ্য প্রায় ২২ থেকে ২৪ সেন্টিমিটার, যা দেখতে অনেকটা গমের শীষের মতো। প্রতি শীষে ১৪০ থেকে ১৮০টি ধান পাওয়া যায়।

তুলশীমালা ধান সাধারণত সুবাসিত চাল উৎপাদনের জন্য বিখ্যাত, যা পোলাও, পায়েসসহ বিভিন্ন ঐতিহ্যবাহী খাবারে ব্যাপকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। এর সুগন্ধ ও দানার সৌন্দর্য একে বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম মূল্যবান ধানের জাত হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে।

Tulshimala Rice – A Traditional Aromatic Aman Variety of Bangladesh

Tulshimala rice is a traditional and photosensitive Aman variety of rice in Bangladesh, primarily cultivated in Sherpur district of the Mymensingh division and in 20 districts located in the southern region of the Padma River. This rice is especially known for its dense greyish grain color, long panicles, and distinctive aroma.

Tulshimala rice is typically transplanted from the last week of July to the first week of August. Flowering occurs between late October and mid-November, and the harvest takes place throughout December (from mid-Agrahayan to early Poush in the Bengali calendar).

The plant height ranges from approximately 110 to 185 centimeters. Each plant generally produces 8 to 10 tillers. The panicles are about 22 to 24 centimeters long and resemble wheat spikes in appearance. Each panicle yields around 140 to 180 grains.

Tulshimala rice is widely recognized for producing aromatic rice, which is extensively used in traditional dishes like polao and payesh (rice pudding). Its fragrance and attractive grain quality have made it one of the most valued rice varieties in Bangladesh.
